Product Description
The 5083 aluminum plate is a classic material in the Al-Mg (aluminum-magnesium) series of anti-corrosion aluminum, which combines high strength with high-grade corrosion resistance (especially resistance to seawater corrosion). It is a typical Al-Mg series anti-corrosion aluminum alloy, and its prominent feature is that the magnesium (Mg) content is as high as 4.0% - 4.9%. It plays an irreplaceable role in heavy industries such as shipbuilding, chemical transportation, and high-pressure vessels, which require reliability and durability.
Main advantages and features:
High strength and lightweight: The high magnesium content brings about a remarkable solid solution strengthening effect, enabling its tensile strength to reach 270-420 MPa, and its yield strength to reach 110-345 MPa (performance varies depending on the state), far exceeding those of 5052, 5754 and other grades. At the same time, its density is 1/3 that of steel, significantly reducing the equipment's self-weight.
Outstanding corrosion resistance: Particularly resistant to seawater and marine atmospheric corrosion. The dense oxide film formed on the surface can effectively resist chloride ion erosion, making it an ideal material for ships and marine engineering.
Excellent welding performance: Excellent welding performance, supporting various processes such as argon arc welding (TIG/MIG). After welding, the weld strength can reach over 90% of the base material, and it is not prone to cracks.
Good cold workability: Good plasticity, easy for cutting, bending, stamping and other cold processing forming.
Non-heat treatment strengthening: Like all 5 series anti-rust aluminum, 5083 cannot be strengthened through heat treatment. Its strength improvement mainly relies on cold work hardening.
Main application fields:
Ship and marine engineering: This is a classic application area of 5083, used for manufacturing hull plates, decks, bulkhead walls, and main structural components such as cryogenic liquid containers for liquefied natural gas (LNG) transport ships.
Transport vehicles: It is used for manufacturing aluminum alloy tank bodies (oil tankers, chemical liquid transport vehicles), gas storage cylinders for cars, bus body skins, and structural components for heavy trucks, offering both lightweighting and safety.
Pressure vessels and storage tanks: Due to its excellent corrosion resistance and welding sealing properties, it is widely used in manufacturing chemical storage tanks, LNG storage tanks, high-pressure gas storage cylinders, and other pressure equipment that require strict fire protection.
Other industrial fields: It is also applied in mold manufacturing for aerospace, building curtain walls, mechanical equipment, and missile components, etc.
